American Indian Journalists Gain Experience at Online College Newspaper
It's no surprise that American Indians are underrepresented in newsrooms across the country, according to Dennis McAuliffe Jr.
Young American Indian writers don't know where to turn for guidance, he says, and they have few chances to hone their skills.
"Not many tribal schools have journalism programs," says Mr. McAuliffe, a journalism instructor at the University of Montana at Missoula, "and college newspapers tend to be the domain of white kids."
