American Colleges See More Saudi Students on Scholarships

A new scholarship program sponsored by the government of Saudi Arabia has proved to be a bonanza for American universities facing an overall decline in foreign-student enrollments, even as Saudi students struggle to secure visas from U.S. consular officials in their home country.

Almost 6,000 Saudis have received student visas in the past six months, compared with 2,166 for the year ending September 2005, says the U.S. State Department.
