America's Colleges Should Rank Themselves
Why do we allow U.S. News & World Report to be the major source of information on how the public should evaluate a college and how institutions stack up against their peers? Higher education itself should be responsible for providing a reliable guide to the relative academic performance of each institution.
But we have chosen to cloak in secrecy the one vehicle readily available to accomplish such a goal: accreditation.
