AmeriCorps Unsure of Volunteer Positions
Leaders of AmeriCorps, the national-service program that provides money for college tuition or to repay student loans in exchange for domestic community service, don't yet know how many volunteers it will be able to support for 2003, contrary to a report in The Washington Post. Neither is the program's head planning to quit soon, as the newspaper said.
The newspaper reported last month that the program may have only enough money to pay for 25,000 of its 50,000 volunteers for this year.
