Alumni Candidates for Trustee

To the Editor:

Last year the two petition candidates at Dartmouth College won the two available seats for alumni trustees, and some 36 percent of voting Hamilton College alumni supported petition candidates as a well-qualified, credible alternative for governance ("Renegades Shake Up Trustee Elections," The Chronicle, March 10). Perhaps "gadfly" isn't quite the right word.

More important, your article may have left an incomplete understanding of the restrictions on speech
