Alabama State Hopes to Become First Black College in Division I-A Football
Alabama State University doesn't strike most people as a likely candidate for big-time football.
Located in Montgomery, the cradle of the civil-rights movement, the university is better known for its band, the A.S.U. Marching Hornets, than for its football team. The tackling Hornets won only 2 of 11 games last fall, and haven't had a winning season since 1995.
However, that isn't stopping the chairman of Alabama State's Board of Trustees, Donald V.
