Alabama Reaches Pact in Desegregation Case
Plaintiffs in Alabama's 25-year-old college desegregation lawsuit have reached an agreement with the state on how to resolve the major outstanding issues in the case.
Both sides said they do not expect any significant opposition to the proposed settlement and believe that it will move the lawsuit to an end.
The five-year plan still must be approved by the federal judge overseeing the case, which dates from 1981 and already has been the subject of two lengthy trials.
