Aging Professors' Decisions to Retire
To the Editor:
The analysis of retirement patterns and aging professors by Robert L. Clark and P. Brett Hammond was most useful ("As Professors Age, Retirement Policies Need Rejuvenation," Opinion, June 2). I would like to add two points to the discussion.
First, if faculty members and academic institutions participate in one or more retirement plans, either governmental or private, it is more likely that faculty members will opt for early retirement.
