After Terror Charges, Artist Exhibits Academic Freedom
Steven J. Kurtz hovers over his kitchen table and carefully squirts a liquid seaweed extract into petri dishes. Later in the process, he'll spray 2 milliliters of bacteria over the dishes. That bacteria will feed off the seaweed extract and create bright red splotches in the dishes.
It is all part of an exhibit that Mr. Kurtz will soon put on display at a nearby arts center. But it was just such work with bacteria that prompted federal agents to raid Mr. Kurtz's home four years ago in
