After Katrina, Professors Get Personal
For me, and for most professors at large public universities, the sheer number of students makes it logistically difficult to pay attention to their personal problems, even if my students wanted me to intrude in their lives. Furthermore, faculty members' doctorates in mass communication, math, or French literature don't qualify us to render verdicts on issues like "Should I break up with my boyfriend?" or "My parents don't understand me."
