Advocates for Parents Push to Simplify College-Savings Plans
Choosing a state-run college-savings plan can be a daunting task for parents. Dozens of plans are available, and it can take an advanced degree in finance to understand how the plans compare in terms of the fees that they charge or their likely investment returns.
The Securities and Exchange Commission has set up a panel to examine the plans, partly in response to Congressional leaders who have expressed concern that state oversight is inadequate and the fees are too
