Admissions Plan Irks S. African Academics

Higher-education leaders in South Africa are in an uproar over a government plan, revealed last month, to centralize admissions for all of the nation's public colleges and universities.

In the next few weeks, South Africa's minister of education, Kader Asmal, must decide whether to go ahead with the plan, which was proposed last year by a government committee.
