The University of Missouri’s School of Medicine has been put on probation by the accrediting body for residency programs, the Columbia Daily Tribune reported, but officials told the newspaper they did not yet know why.
The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education notified the university last month of the probation, which was effective April 15. Such notifications are sent immediately, Julie Jacob, the council’s manager of communications, told the newspaper, but the organization can take up to 60 days to draft a letter outlining specific concerns. She declined to say what what concerns were raised about Missouri’s program.
Rich Gleba, a spokesman for the medical school, said officials there were “anxiously awaiting word” from the council so they could “work to correct whatever areas those are as soon as possible.” —Charles Huckabee
