Officials of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools decided on Thursday to keep Bishop State Community College, in Mobile, Ala., on probation for at least six more months.
Belle S. Wheelan, president of the regional accrediting agency’s Commission on Colleges, cited concerns about the college’s integrity, financial resources, educational programs, and handling of Title IV federal financial aid. The accreditor also cited the qualifications of the college’s administrators and academic officers.
The association first put Bishop State on probation in December 2006, and will reconsider its accreditation status this December.
The college is the subject of state and federal investigations that have led to numerous accusations of financial-aid fraud. —Elyse Ashburn
