Accrediting Group Changes Standards to Allow Colleges to Set Their Own Goals
In a move that could signal a new direction for accreditation, the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools has unveiled an alternative accrediting process based on continuing evaluations of a college's progress toward goals it helps set, rather than on traditional standards and prescriptions.
Association officials say that while the traditional mechanisms are not being retired, they hope that at least a third of the institutions currently accredited
