The Council for Higher Education Accreditation, an umbrella group representing accreditors, has issued a one-page list of suggestions for ways to step up the fight against diploma mills, or “degree mills,” as the council calls them. The suggestions include “Develop and apply definitions of degree mills” and “Routinely inform the public about how degree mills harm students and society.” All laudable goals, to be sure. Absent from the list are any ideas for putting the suggestions into practice.
