Accreditation of Law Schools

In "Regional Accreditors Punish Colleges Rarely and Inconsistently" (January 12), Beth McMurtrie points out that the accreditation branch of the Department of Education has recently begun to put pressure on the regional accrediting bodies for their failure to enforce rigorous standards against their member institutions. In fact, McMurtrie quotes Karen W. Kershenstein, head of the accreditation branch, as saying that the department would be watching accreditors closely.
