Academics and the Academy

Sister Rose Thering, a professor emerita of education at Seton Hall University, and Douglas Biklen, a professor of disability studies at Syracuse University, have never met. But on Sunday night, their lives will converge -- not at an academic conference, but among the red-carpet glitterati at the 77th Annual Academy Awards. Each is involved with a film nominated in the documentary-short-subject category.

Sister Rose is the protagonist of Sister Rose's Passion, which chronicles her
