Academic Medical Centers Face Financial Crisis, Report Warns
America's 125 teaching hospitals are facing a growing burden of caring for the nation's poor and uninsured, according to a new report.
Unless that trend is reversed, more teaching hospitals are going to face "a downward spiral in their financial status," concluded the Commonwealth Fund Task Force on Academic Health Centers. The Commonwealth Fund is a private foundation, based in New York City, that conducts research on health and social issues.
