ACLU Files Lawsuit Over Visa Denials

The American Civil Liberties Union sued the federal government this month, accusing the State Department and other agencies of illegally withholding information about visas denied to foreign scholars who were seeking to come to the United States.

In March the ACLU asked the agencies to provide information about what it described as the government's practice of excluding foreign academics who had criticized U.S. policies. The request was filed under the Freedom of Information Act, which
