A Writing Professor Fights an 'Us Against Them' Attitude
They sat in a classroom more than 2,000 miles away from New York City and Washington, D.C., on the morning of September 11. But still, students in Janice Kempster's introductory writing courses at Great Basin College, a community college in Elko, Nev., were angry. In Ms. Kempster's classroom -- and in their writing -- the students hashed out their concerns in the months that followed.
