A Veteran Student-Aid Director Talks About the Future of His Field
James A. Belvin Jr. will soon retire from Duke University, where he has been the financial-aid director for 32 years. The Chronicle spoke with Mr. Belvin about a range of issues, including recent upheavals in the student-loan market. While he thinks the effect of the loan crunch has been overstated, Mr. Belvin is concerned it might dissuade low-income students from pursuing college educations.
