A Student Under Suspicion
Yashar Zendehdel spent 26 hours in a federal jail last year, but what he lost there is harder to measure than time. Like many Middle Eastern students at American colleges who have had run-ins with federal authorities since September 11, Mr. Zendehdel, an Iranian, says his view of the United States has changed. He understands why officials want to keep track of foreign nationals in the country, yet he believes that he and other visiting students are being treated like criminals.
