A Reluctant Ambassador
According to the popular adage, the only dumb questions are those that go unasked. Binyavanga Wainaina, an accomplished writer from Kenya, begs to differ.
"I'm not exactly sure where Sudan is," says a young woman in his contemporary-African-literature course at Union College here. "Is it near the ocean?"
The class is discussing Season of Migration to the North, a novel by the acclaimed Sudanese writer Tayeb Salih, assigned a week ago.
