A Questionable Report About Sex Discrimination

Too bad The Chronicle wasted precious space on "Report Questions M.I.T.'s Study on Treatment of Female Professors" (February 16). ... The Independent Women's Forum bases a large portion of its findings on research productivity. Certainly, that is a scientific way to approach the comparison, but the I.W.F. misses a few key points.

First, in 1999-2000, 41 percent of the undergraduate and 27 percent of the graduate students at M.I.T. were women. Compare that to the
