A Pioneering Offshore Medical School Gains Credibility
In 1978, David Lennon, bored of teaching in a Kansas City college, spotted an ad in Science magazine seeking professors for a new medical school on the tiny Caribbean island of Grenada. He jumped at the opportunity.
St. George's University, which opened in 1977 with 200 students, had a new idea: Offer an English language, American-style medical education for students rejected by medical schools in the United States and Canada.
"It was an absolute adventure," Mr. Lennon recalls.
