A Need to Refocus Academic Priorities
To the Editor:
Michael Bugeja's "How to Fight the High Cost of Curricular Glut" (The Chronicle, February 1) points to an issue at the heart of the continuing saga of higher-education reform. Our current model of undergraduate education has been based on an instructional paradigm focused on the transfer of information and assimilation of knowledge. As technology transformation has accelerated and problems have become more complex, we have responded by adding courses.
