A Local Student Finds Stability in College Life
When Stephanie A. Hilferty, then a junior at Loyola University New Orleans, fled the city ahead of Hurricane Katrina, she left behind more than her college life. Ms. Hilferty, who grew up in nearby Metairie, said goodbye to her family and home, too.
Although she had lived with her parents and commuted the 10 miles to Loyola, she left town with a couple of her college friends, expecting, as everyone did, to return in a few days. Two weeks later she found herself living in Philadelphia
