A Lift for GOP Lawmakers Who Support Science
Call it soft money for supporters of science -- as long as they are Republicans.
Rep. Vernon J. Ehlers, a Michigan Republican and a physicist, has formed a political-action committee designed to raise money for candidates who support research. The committee, dubbed SCIPAC, is based in Arlington, Va. Contributions to such organizations are often deemed "soft" because they are not direct gifts to candidates, but donations to committees that support a number of campaigns.
