A Hospitable Atmosphere for Minority Students

David Glenn's "Minority Students Fare Better at Selective Colleges, Researchers Say" (The Chronicle, September 3) ignores a powerful force affecting graduation rates. During my 15 years as president of Ramapo College of New Jersey, I came to realize how important campus culture and normative values are for retention and graduation rates.
