A History Course Has Students Examine the Origins of Their Own Family Treasures
About a dozen years ago, Philip N. Racine, a history professor at Wofford College, hit on the idea of a course in which students would bring in old journals or newspapers they had found and do research into the stories they contained.
He established the course, "What Is This Thing? What Good Is It?," but found that instead of newspapers, students were bringing in a variety of other venerable old items. The course turned out to be a success anyway.
