A Global Marketplace Requires Study Abroad

To the Editor:

My immediate reaction to Karin Fischer's November 17 story, "For American Students, Study-Abroad Numbers Continue to Climb, but Financial Obstacles Loom" (The Chronicle, November 21) was that students — and our nation — will be in greater financial jeopardy if we see fewer students studying abroad. Six years from now, today's high-school senior may be working with a team of Web designers in Moscow, or reporting to a manager of an auto-parts company
