A Full Year of Orientation

To the Editor:

I was interested to read about the semester-long orientation for new faculty members at Wheaton College ("Orientation for Professors," The Chronicle, September 28). I am wondering whether their program and a similar program at my institution are indicators of a trend in understanding what effective integration of new faculty members into academic life entails.

Unlike Wheaton's program, our weekly meetings last for a full academic year. We offer the sorts of
