A Facilities Manager Digs Out of the Rubble
Hurricane Katrina did not leave behind a single piece of some of the buildings on the University of Southern Mississippi's campus in Long Beach.
More than one-fifth of its structures vanished in the storm, and none escaped damage.
"It was kind of overwhelming," recalls David Taylor, the director of physical plant for the university's Gulf Coast facilities, of driving up in his all-terrain vehicle to see what was left four days after the storm.
