A European Campaign for Educational Quality

To the Editor:

Alan Contreras rightly argues that the main challenge of the recently launched European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education is to address widely different quality standards across 46 countries in Europe, and to do so in total independ-ence from governments (The Chronicle, "International Quality Control Is No Easy Task," May 30).

It is, indeed, this very challenge that led to the creation of the register, at the initiative of four European associations
