A Database of Earmarks

Your survey of federal earmarks received by colleges and universities can serve as a valuable guide to federally funded research, yet there are some aspects of this resource that can be confusing, even misleading ("Colleges' Earmarks Grow, Amid Criticism," The Chronicle, March 28).

In reviewing the online database (http://chronicle.com/stats/pork), I discovered instances where Cornell University's share of earmarks was inflated; in others, Cornell was listed as a
