Astra Taylor is a writer and a documentary filmmaker who tackles an unusual subject for cinema — philosophy. Taylor, 29, has been interested in philosophy since her early teenage years, when she first read Peter Singer's Animal Liberation, which fed her burgeoning interest in animal rights and ethical issues and later social and cultural theory. Examined Life is Taylor's second film on philosophy, following her 2005 documentary Zizek!, on the Slovenian philosopher Slavoj Zizek. She
