A Community-College District Volunteers to Give Taxpayers a Break
In these tough economic times, most public colleges are searching for new revenue sources. But not the North Harris Montgomery Community College District, near Houston.
The Board of Trustees of the four-college district has given local taxpayers a break, reducing what they pay to help support the operating budget to 10.55 cents per $100 in property value from 11 cents. The decision comes even as lawmakers struggle to fill a projected $10-billion hole in the state
