A Coach Rebuilds
Joe Scheuermann worries about his grass. Last summer's flood ravaged the baseball diamond at Delgado Community College, turning the outfield's green to brown. When the water receded, Mr. Scheuermann, Delgado's baseball coach, put down winter grass to brighten what the salt and sludge had dulled. Now, the dark, dead splotches have returned.
Nearly a year after Hurricane Katrina, Mr. Scheuermann, 43, still studies the poisoned soil at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium, on Delgado's City Park campus.
