A Carolina Oasis
As institutional amenities go, it's hard to top the Coker Arboretum, a five-acre oasis of old trees and shady paths near the historic heart of the University of North Carolina's sprawling and congested campus here. But making the arboretum as serene and naturalistic as it is takes a lot of hard work.
Founded just over a hundred years ago, the arboretum offers something for everyone. Students fall in love on its benches and toss Frisbees in the grassy area known as Swain's Pasture,
