A Border Fence Would Split a Higher-Education Community, Colleges Argue
The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College filed a resolution on Tuesday opposing the U.S. government's plans to erect 700 miles of fencing along the U.S.-Mexico border. That barrier, officials at the colleges say, could disrupt their operations and undermine their efforts to unite communities on opposite sides of the Rio Grande.
The wall, to be built in segments, is intended to slow illegal immigration and drug smuggling along the 2,000-mile U.S.-Mexico
