Colleges Would Reap More Than $267-Million in Earmarks in Spending Bill Before Bush
Colleges and universities have plenty of reasons to support a 2008 appropriations bill for labor, health, and education programs that Congress sent to President Bush last week, including increased funds for Pell Grants and a boost to the budget for the National Institutes of Health. Add to that list the fact that academic institutions would receive about one-quarter of the more than $1-billion in earmarks included in the bill, if the president signs it into law.
