A Battle Between Authors Over a New Book

To the Editor:

I did not try to stop Norman G. Finkelstein's book from being published ("Calif. Press Will Publish Controversial Book on Israel," The Chronicle, July 22). ... As I wrote the directors of the University of California Press, "I have no interest in censoring or suppressing Finkelstein's freedom of expression" and "I am not trying ...to prevent the publication of Finkelstein's book."
