A 20th-Century Man; Apostolic Secession
There comes a time in every academic's life when he must ponder the prospect of retirement. For Charles H. (Hap) Fisher, that day came in late November as the adjunct research professor of chemistry celebrated his 100th birthday amid a gathering of former and current students, colleagues, and administrators at Roanoke College.
His last official day at the college was November 30, although Gail Steehler, chairwoman of the chemistry department, says Mr. Fisher appeared in the department
