65 Cuban Scholars Are Denied U.S. Visas

All 65 Cuban scholars who had planned to attend an international conference of the Latin American Studies Association this month in Las Vegas were informed a week before the conference was to start that their requests for U.S. visas had been denied.

The conference is held every 18 months, and on previous occasions the U.S. Department of State has refused to issue visas for some Cubans who sought to attend. This is the first time that the entire delegation has been turned away since the
