60% of Ph.D. Students Said to Get Assistantships
More than 60 percent of doctoral students have paid assistantships, with students in engineering and the sciences getting the largest awards, according to a U.S. Education Department report.
"Student Financing of Graduate and First-Professional Education, 1999-2000," which uses data from the National Postsecondary Student Aid Study, contains a wide range of data on teaching and research assistantships.
