The University of California at San Francisco will use a $50-million gift from the Atlantic Philanthropies to build a center for cardiovascular research and clinical treatment on its Mission Bay campus, the university announced today.
The cash gift, to be paid over the next four years on the condition that the university lines up matching donors, will allow scientists and clinicians to work under the same roof to study heart attacks, strokes, and related medical problems. The new building will also house a new Center for Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease. The building’s total estimated cost is $241-million. The university has allocated $52-million, and an anonymous donor has given $30-million toward the cause as well.
