3% of Female Students Said to Be Victims of Rape or Attempted Rape
A new U.S. Justice Department study says that about 3 percent of female college students were the victims of rape or attempted rape during the 1996-97 academic year.
In the report, "The Sexual Victimization of College Women," the authors estimate that 350 rapes may occur each year on campuses where 10,000 or more women are enrolled -- a finding that the report's authors say has serious policy implications for college administrators.
