Nine Egyptian students out of 11 who went missing in the United States two weeks ago are now in custody, CNN reported on Saturday, quoting a statement from federal authorities. Immigration officers and FBI investigators are trying to locate the remaining two students, the cable network and other news agencies said.
Six students had been arrested earlier last week (The Chronicle, August 11). Three more students were found and arrested on Friday night in Des Moines, Iowa, authorities said.
The FBI said it had found no “credible or imminent threat” posed by any of the students located so far and stressed that there were no ties between the students and the suspected terror plot announced on Thursday by British and U.S. authorities. The students were part of a group of 17 that entered the country on July 29 for an exchange program at Montana State University at Bozeman. Only six showed up for class (The Chronicle, August 7).
