The top two administrators at Colorado State University’s veterinary hospital have resigned amid a squabble with university leaders over the institution’s finances and how a supplemental $1-million appropriation from the legislature was spent, according to The Coloradoan, a newspaper in Fort Collins, Colo.
Daniel D. Smeak, the hospital’s director, and Chris Grippo, its administrator, told the newspaper they had quit last week to protest how the university was handling the hospital’s finances. They also said that the legislature had specified that the state money was to be used to make up for a loss of revenue, but that university officials had wanted to use some of the money for other purposes.
University officials declined to comment on the specifics of the hospital officials’ departures, but said the two men had left voluntarily. Tony Frank, provost and senior executive vice president, said he had no knowledge of any budget errors involving the hospital’s funds. —Charles Huckabee
